January 2018 Newsletter

Welcome to the new year!  We're hoping this to be a successful year for the Highland Bands!

Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who came out and bowled with us on our family bowling night!  It was a great success and we heard nothing but good things!

We also want to thank everyone who came out and supported us at our "Fundraise Your Heart Out" dining out fundraiser at MOD Pizza!

Lastly, thank you to all who helped chaperone at the concert.  Mr Blocker received compliments on how well our kids were behaving!

Upcoming Dates

At our January Booster Meeting we went over the plans for the rest of the school year.  We have a couple of dates which are not set in stone yet, namely a couple more dining out fundraisers and the century resources fundraiser.  Below is a list of the dates for you to mark on your calendar.  Also, we are looking to sent up a FansRaise fundraiser for you to raise funds to pay any band fees without selling anything!

20-Jan Alumni Night Pep Performance Night!  If you are interested, email Mr Blocker for pep music!
3-Feb ISSMA Solo & Ensemble Performance @ Munster HS - be on the lookout for what time your child performs
10-Feb 7th & 8th Grade Pep Performance Night!  We invite our 7th and 8th graders out for a night of pep game performance.  Come on out and join the fun.
12-FebBooster Meeting
Feb TBD: Dining Out Fundraiser
Feb/March TBD: Parent Meeting for Mattress Fundraiser
10-MarSpring Craft Show!  Be on the lookout for sign up sheets for volunteers.  We had such success in the fall, let's see what we can do in the spring! Spread the word, invite your friends!
12-Mar Booster Meeting
17-Mar Mattress Fundraiser!  We are co-hosting a mattress fundraiser with the choir and orchestra.  We have the potential to earn THOUSANDS of dollars, but we need YOU to spread the word!
22-Mar Spring Band Concert!  Again, we will need some parent volunteers to help keep the kids quiet and moving to/from their performances.
9-Apr Booster Meeting: Nomination Night
18-Apr Beginning Band Recruiting Night!  The night most of you remember, where we sign up our incoming 6th graders for Band. We will need a couple helpers to help make sure paperwork is in order.
19-Apr Beginning Band Recruiting Night!  The night most of you remember, where we sign up our incoming 6th graders for Band. We will need a couple helpers to help make sure paperwork is in order.
April TBD: Dining Out Fundraiser
April TBD: Century Resources Fundraiser
14-May Booster Meeting: Vote for New Officers
15-May Band Concert! We will need some parent volunteers to help keep the kids quiet and moving to/from their performances.
17-May Band Banquet!  We will be mailing out invitations for you to join us for some dinner, awards and a good night out with your band family.

Charms

It's been a while, but we're finally getting all student accounting moved into Charms.  More information will be coming on how to access your student information once the move is complete. Hopefully, we'll also have a way set up for you to pay right through the system as well!

Mr Blocker thanks everyone for the holiday treats!  January is dedicated to solo preparation in class.  Videos, Google Classroom and SmartMusic will be used all over the place!

WATER DONATIONS We're asking each Band family to donate 1 case of water.   You can bring it to the school when you drop off your Marcher for practice on September 7th, 9th or before the Home Game on the 10th. Kankakee Valley ~ Competition Week

First all of THANK YOU to those that came out to support the band this past weekend at our festival. It was a success. Now onto this week it is pretty busy with the homecoming football game, competition and the dance. Below is from Mr. Blocker regarding the schedule for those events, Also we are still needing some help with feeding the kids and pit crew. Perfect time to help if your kid is wanting to go to homecoming you will need to be at the competition to pick your child up in order for your child to go to the dance.
