  August 2020 Newsletter Hi Everyone! August has come and gone and the band keeps playing 😀. Virtual band class is in full swing and the Marching Band is performing on the football field. Come out and support the kids. Band parents, family and friends play an important roll in high school band. We all are band boosters and we all contribute to a successful season. Join in the mix and be part of winning team. Providing an extra set hands at games, donating drinks & snacks, or simply cheering, it is always a good time. February 2020 Newsletter Congrats to all the students participating at the ISSMA Solo & Ensemble Contest in February Band FUN Night - Roller Skating! The boosters are hosting a roller skating band fun night on February 20th at Lynwood Skating from 6-9pm! We have rented out the rink and all band members and their families are invited to come! The more the merrier! The cost for this event is $10/person which covers entry fees, skate rental, pizza, and soda. The snack bar will also be open and you can purchase other food on your own. January 2020 Newsletter Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Blocker! They welcomed a new baby son, Milo Robert into their family 1/21/2020! ISSMA Recital Night On February 6th, Mr. Blocker & Mr. Leonard-White would like to host an ISSMA recital night. This will give our students another chance to play their ISSMA solo and ensemble pieces. This a great way for the students to perform their pieces before an audience before the actual contest. The students will be arranged in small groups consisting of varying grades and instruments for performance blocks. You can come and stay for as much or as little as you'd like! We will have performances starting at 5 and lasting until around 9pm. Performances will be in both the cafeteria and the library. The band and orchestra boosters are going to host a Taco Bar in the cafeteria. We are asking for a donation of $5/person to help offset the costs of the food and drinks. April 2019 Newsletter Student Account Balances Student's accounts were updated for the April booster meeting, including outstanding balances from ISSMA and Marching band.  Please try and make payments by May 1st to Highland Band Boosters.  If you have questions or need to make arrangements, please reach out! Century Resources Order forms went home with kids last week.  Don't forget you can order online as well!  New this year, you can just make a donation to your student online!  Order forms are due to Mr. Blocker by April 22. March 2019 Newsletter Mattress Fundraiser Our Mattress fundraiser is this weekend! Have you shared the event on Facebook ? Invited your family and friends? Remember, not only does the band earn money, but your child earns money for each sale they refer! Thirty One Fundraiser We are trying something new! A Thirty One Fundraiser! Many of our parents use Thirty One bags when traveling, especially to marching competitions. They are having a customer special on travel bags this month. We receive 25% of all orders! Join the Facebook party ! Disney 2019 The marching band will be going to Disney Oct 24-28, 2019. All registrations need to be completed by April 1, 2019 so that we have a good headcount and know how much paperwork we need to prepare. We will have a paperwork night after our May booster meeting on May 13th. February 2019 Newsletter Congrats to all of our students who performed at ISSMA Solo & Ensemble! We had a record number of students qualify for state competition this year!  Congrats to Adalia Alston, Ellie Davis, Sierra Laviolette, Shivam Patel, Alyana DelaCruz, Logan Juran, Jude Salanio and Phil Bock (2 solos)!  These students will also compete this Saturday in Indianapolis!  Good luck! We also want to send out a huge congrats to junior Phil Bock for making all state honor band on piccolo! January 2019 Newsletter Welcome to 2019!  We hope you've been enjoying it so far and that your band students have had a great start to their year and are ready for their ISSMA performances! The next few weeks are a busy one for the band! Upcoming Dates for Jan/Feb 1/26 - ISSMA Solo & Ensemble @ Wilbur Wright MS in Munster 2/7 - Pep Band : MS Night!  7-8th graders are invited to join our HS band for pizza before the Pep performance @ 5pm.  Students will get an RSVP form via Google Classroom from Mr. Blocker.  We want to make sure we have enough pizza! 2/8 - Quarterly Band Fun Night - Pizza & Movie Night @ 6pm.  Students will get an RSVP and will vote on the movie we will watch! 2/11 - Booster Meeting followed immediately by a mandatory Marching & Disney 2019 meeting! November 2018 Newsletter November is a time where we all remember to be thankful.  The Board would like to send a THANK YOU to everyone for helping out to make our craft show another great success for the band!  It would have been impossible without the generous donations of bake sale items, soda and most importantly your time! Lady's Gourmet Fundraiser was a great success! They even said we did extremely well for our first fundraiser with them! Delivery is on November 20th after school. Pickup times and locations are: 4:00-5:30 @ HHS Auditorium Lobby & 7-10pm @ Stardust during bowling Band Family Bowling Night is coming up on November 20th at Stardust Bowling in Dyer!  We hope that we can have all of our band families join us.  The final day for RSVP and pre-payment is Friday, November 16th.  Make sure to get your RSVP in.  If you are an adult and you wish to come and hang out with us but not bowl, we are requesting a $5 donation to h...

Lady's Gourmet Popcorn Sales! Our Lady's Gourmet Popcorn sale continues through fall break until 10/31.  Please turn your envelope with your order form and money in to Mr Blocker no later than 10/31.  These are a great fundraiser for the band and your student.  Remember, each tub sold earns them $2 into their student accounts!  8 tubs = ISSMA Solo Fee is paid! Craft Fair Our fall craft fair is huge this year.  I've been turning away crafters for almost 2 months now because we are overfull with 105 crafters!  This is a HUGE fundraiser for the band.  To share the profit, we pay each student and family member that helps out, $2 per hour into the student accounts. September 2018 Newsletter  Highland Festival of Bands 9/15 @ 2:45 - Our 7th, 8th and HS non-marchers will kick off the festival with the National Anthem! We invite all band families to come out and support our Marching Trojan Pride! Complimentary entry passes will be emailed to parents and given to your students. Simply show the printed ticket or ticket on your phone for family entry. Band Activity Night 9/28 @ 5pm - Students will RSVP in class. Each student is asked to bring a plain white cotton t-shirt for tie-dying fun! We will have pizza, chips and soda. There will be games and other activities for the students to enjoy some fun and fellowship with other band members. Lots of things going on in the coming month!! Tonight! Friday, April 13th the High School Concert Band will perform at Hanover Central High School  ( 10120 W 133rd Ave, Cedar Lake, IN 46303) for ISSMA competition at 7:30 pm.  They could certainly use a cheering section.  Come on out and support our HS Concert Band. Booster Board Nominations/Voting Next Month We are looking for some fresh faces to help serve on our Booster Board.  The board meets monthly before the monthly booster meeting.  You can nominate yourself or someone you think would help our band program.  Submit your nominations before our next booster meeting, where we will vote.   Nominate someone today !
