November 2018 Newsletter

November is a time where we all remember to be thankful.  The Board would like to send a THANK YOU to everyone for helping out to make our craft show another great success for the band!  It would have been impossible without the generous donations of bake sale items, soda and most importantly your time!

Lady's Gourmet Fundraiser was a great success! They even said we did extremely well for our first fundraiser with them! Delivery is on November 20th after school.

Pickup times and locations are: 4:00-5:30 @ HHS Auditorium Lobby & 7-10pm @ Stardust during bowling

Band Family Bowling Night is coming up on November 20th at Stardust Bowling in Dyer!  We hope that we can have all of our band families join us.  The final day for RSVP and pre-payment is Friday, November 16th.  Make sure to get your RSVP in.  If you are an adult and you wish to come and hang out with us but not bowl, we are requesting a $5 donation to help cover the cost of pizzas.

Holiday Spectacular!  Our combined holiday concert with the Orchestra is December 18th @ 6:30pm.  Students and parent helpers should report to the band room by 6pm.

We are encouraging students grades 7-12 to get a group of friends together and go caroling with the caroling books uploaded into Google Classroom.  If your student wants to carol, or you know of somewhere that would enjoy caroling let the boosters know and we can work on getting groups of the kids together!

A group of 15 of our high school students joined Mr. Blocker on November 9th for a trip to Indianapolis.  While there, they were able to tour and have lunch at Butler, learning more about the school and options available there.  They then headed over to Lucas Oil to watch some of the prelims for Bands of America marching competition before going to a Leadership Conference held by Music for All.  They finished up there trip watching more of the prelims before heading home.  All 15 students had hugely positive experiences and this would be a great opportunity that we would love to offer in the coming years!

ISSMA Solo and Ensemble entries are due by Thanksgiving.  Solos are $15 and Ensembles are $7/person.  ISSMA will be held on January 26th.  More information will be coming from Mr. Blocker soon including information on private lesson instructors.

Pep Band has had their first performance!  The remaining performance dates are: November 28th, November 30th, December 13th, January 10th, January 15th, January 31st, February 7th and February 15th.

Mark your calendars!  Friday February 1st we will host a pizza and movie night for band students!

December 10th is our next booster meeting!  We will be meeting with the leadership team offsite and enjoying some holiday time together.  Mark the date and look for the RSVP with location to come after Thanksgiving as we reserve a location!
