February 2019 Newsletter

Congrats to all of our students who performed at ISSMA Solo & Ensemble! We had a record number of students qualify for state competition this year!  Congrats to Adalia Alston, Ellie Davis, Sierra Laviolette, Shivam Patel, Alyana DelaCruz, Logan Juran, Jude Salanio and Phil Bock (2 solos)!  These students will also compete this Saturday in Indianapolis!  Good luck!

We also want to send out a huge congrats to junior Phil Bock for making all state honor band on piccolo!

Scrip

Booster Parent Stephanie Waldron has graciously set us up with Scrip!  Thank you for your help with this!!

Our first order for plastic cards will be on March 1st. Once you are signed up and have an account you can put in your own order online and pay with the prestopay feature or print the emailed shopping list, fill it out, and send it in to Mr. Blocker with a check made out to Highland Band Boosters.  The prestopay takes a couple of days to set up so please do not wait until the last minute to do this.
Once you have your plastic cards and if they are reloadable you can use your phone or computer to add more money onto the cards. With prestopay you can do this at any time. You also have the option of getting e-cards. These also arrive on your phone or computer in minutes. If you use scripwallet you never have to print anything. If you don’t use scripwallet you can have cards sent to your email and you can either print them or use them through your email. Happy scrip shopping!

If you are not a current band parent and wish to get set up using Scrip send us an email and we can get you the information!

Spring Craft & Vendor Fair

This show is coming up soon and will be a huge fundraiser for the band!  We've already got 105 crafters and vendors signed up!  We have over 25 people who we had to put on a waiting list!  This is a one day only fair, Saturday March 9th.  There are a couple of places we could use your help.
  1. Sign up to work the event.  We need parent help on both Friday during set-up and Saturday during the fair and to take things down.  We're using SignUp for this event.  Simply click the link to see our SignUp on SignUp.com: http://signup.com/go/GLZmaTG Review the jobs and times listed and Sign Up!  It's easy and you will not need to register or keep a password.  Sign-Up does send you an email so you can have an easy reminder!  For every hour you or your student works will earn them $2 into their student accounts.
  2. Sign up to have a yard sign.  These will be going out by 2/23 and we will remove them Sunday, March 10th.  All you need to do is put your address on the list here: https://goo.gl/forms/SaA9Ch1JmxICcyPK2
  3. Volunteer to bring in items for our bake sale.  You do not need to individually wrap these items, we will take care of that!  You can bring them Friday during set-up from 6-8pm or Saturday after 7am.
  4. Donate some soda and/or bottles of water.  A donation of one 12 pack of soda or one case of water greatly reduces the amount of money the band spends on concessions.  We have divided up the list of needs below based on grade and last name.
    • 6th Grade Brass - Orange Crush
    • 6th Grade Woodwinds - Mug Rootbeer
    • 7th Grade - Dr. Pepper
    • 8th Grade - Mountain Dew
    • High School (Last Names A-J) - Pepsi
    • High School (Last Names K-Z) - Diet Pepsi or Diet Sierra Mist
  5. Donate to the basket raffle!  We will be having a basket raffle for each class this year!  You can bring your donations into the band room the week before the craft show, or Friday night during set-up!
    • 6th Grade Brass: Game Night Basket - board games, table games, card games..
    • 6th Grade Woodwind: Arts & Crafts Basket - activity kits, paints, brushes, unpainted DIY kits, scrapbooking stuff, crayons, markers...
    • 7th Grade: Let's Go Outside! Basket - chalk, bubbles, outside games...
    • 8th Grade: Go Chicago Go! Basket - Cubs, Sox, Bulls, Bears stuff
    • 9th Grade: Dinner and Movie Night Basket - gift cards for movies or restaurants, DVDs, movie watching snacks...
    • 10th Grade: Faithful Friend Basket - pet treats, toys, picture frames, accessories..
    • 11th Grade: Coffee and Tea Basket - coffee, tea, fancy flavors, mugs, travel mugs, honey sticks...
    • 12th Grade: Sweets Basket - chocolates, candies and sweet treats
    • Boosters: Lotto Basket - scratch off lotto tickets!

Mattress Fundraiser

We will have our 2nd Mattress fundraiser on March 18th!  The band has the potential to earn THOUSANDS of dollars!  The only thing we ask is that you SHARE the event!  You can share it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or simply hand out flyers!  Each mattress sold earns the band money.  Each mattress sold where your child refers the sale earns the child money!  They have the option of depositing that money into their student accounts or taking cash!  Make sure you come out to the High School on March 18th to check it out!  Event Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/289924421695929/
